Huge D2E shoutout Senior Isaac Vazquez and Junior Colton Fruit for earning 1st place in 2/3 of the competition welds. The VALEES regional High School Welding programs met at West Aurora Weisner Center on Friday, April 10, 2026 to compete in the annual Welding and Fabrication Challenge. Each High School or Area Career Center brought a team of eight students, two students per welding process. Competing schools were Fox Valley Career Center, Indian Valley Vocational Center, West Aurora, East Aurora and Oswego. Students were provided a blueprint and were given 40 minutes to weld to the blueprint under the supervision of an industry professional. The students were also led through a presentation on the career pathways within welding, the Waubonsee Welding AAS degree and certificate programs and next steps for admission to Waubonsee. All students engaged closely with industry professionals. Industry professionals emphasized the importance of essential employability skills, safety, and how to develop technical competence in the profession. This month, we are proud to recognize a 12th grade student, Bailey Miller, that exemplifies all of our pillars. This prestigious recognition is awarded to students who consistently demonstrate exceptional dedication to their studies, exemplary behavior, and a positive impact on our school community. Their commitment to academic excellence and active participation in extracurricular activities have not gone unnoticed. Teacher comments include “Bailey does an excellent job of displaying all of the pillars considered as a part of the Portrait of a Graduate. She is always communicating with her fellow classmates, teammates and teachers about what needs to be done either on a sports field, FFA event or in the classroom. Bailey thinks about others in time of need and is always willing to assist to better a situation. She has served and is currently serving in several leadership roles such as class officer and FFA Chapter Reporter. She is sure to complete her work in a timely manner without being reminded of due dates for all of the many projects and events that Bailey assists with throughout the year.” Congratulations, she has earned a $5 gift certificate to the cafeteria, a T-shirt, and a yard sign.
